BC's Mobile Medical Unit one of a kind in Canada.
On display yesterday in Merritt and in operation since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, Clinical Operations Director Peter Henneke says the Mobile Medical Unit has been called into action roughly 40 times.
“Typically it’s medical surge… so if a facility needs extra beds due to an emergency or renovation. We also do medical education and medical outreach, both with First Nations or specific health groups.”
Henneke says the Mobile Medical Unit costs $900,000 to operate annually with each of the six provincial medical authorities chipping in equal shares.
