Merritt Councillor looking to change the policy that sees committees fold before a municipal election.
Following the last election in 2014, Linda Brown says it took forever for city committees to get off the ground and believes stopping all meetings come September will erase any momentum each has generated.
"When committees stop functioning, work flow and issues are interrupted, and we lose valuable members. And, the start up of a committee takes more time to recruit new members, essentially losing more time and creating longer work flow shortages. When the city cancelled committees before the last municipal election, start up didn't occur for over 18-months."
Brown believes committees are essential to reviewing policies and issues for Council.
The motion to rescind the current practise of canceling committees ahead of a municipal election will be discussed at the next regular meeting of Council, July 10th.
